Well, after years of wavering on the boarder of having a blog that focuses on interior design, I will be moving into my first apartment in New York. My friend Annabel and I are currently looking at places now. No dorms for me. I unfortunately don't get to go all out since New York is so far and I can't really use flea market finds to my advantage. That all will just have to wait until I get to live with Tess someday in the near future in our beautiful Los Angeles. I don't really have any photos to post now, but soon I will dig into my design folder and find some inspirational gems to share!

I was linked to one of my classmate's blogs..which then led me to a list of links of blogs which she followed. After giving them a look over I realized how absolutely terribly boring they all are. They almost all followed the same pattern and had nothing unique to offer. The visuals were absolutely the worst, all coming from the same canon digital rebel probably.

Is this because I have the attention span of a Tumblr user now? Has blogging been around so long that it is nothing special and everyone and their mom has one? I believe it is both...and probably a few other things. I am constantly frustrated by the internet...technology too. My ex-boyfriend and I would always discuss our views on blogs, social networking sites, and whatever else the internet has that allows you to express yourself. Why put it on paper. Nick one day came home from class with a manifesto of the future of photography, how it will all be viewed on computer screens and making prints should become totally obsolete. Aside from drugstore prints I haven't made a print in months. In one class I didn't even bother making digital prints for class, instead I just projected it on a wall, where as probably 2 years ago that option would have been out of question. I have clearly gone off topic but I guess I think the internet is ready to implode upon itself, or else I am patiently waiting for it to do so.

Today I am going outside and will leave the internet behind. I should be concerned that my "tumblarity" is going to drop or something, but I will survive. Maybe when I come home though I am going to go over all the blogs I follow on my blog roll and drop the ones I just don't care about. Don't drop my blog though...I love you all, each and every one of you.

I am turning 19 in a week on August 10th. This Saturday I am planning a birthday picnic at the Getty Center before the Dodos play a show. Sunday I will be at the Rosebowl Fleamarket. Monday is my actual birthday but I have no idea what to do...maybe Disneyland??

Birthdays ALWAYS stress me out. I usually end up being cranky and overwhelmed. Birthdays have to many expectations. This birthday is going to be a sad one for sure though because it marks the start of my last year as a teenager, and I thought I was finally getting so angsty. How is it already August...Where has this summer gone??

It really sucks living in LA and not having air conditioning in your car. I cannot express that enough. I mean I guess it sucks anywhere that you live that is hot. My car doesn't have air conditioning and neither does my house. Then again I live in Malibu...we keep our doors open all day (please don't rob me). On the radio all any of the news people have to say is what a scorcher it is out there. I mean today it was 80 degrees at the beach, not even driving with the windows down could save me from my thighs sticking to my leather seats. Everyone's Facebook status is an indicator of the weather, or wishing they had a pool. And then there are those poor souls who live in the Valley. At least they have air conditoning in their homes...I hope. It must not be forgotten that we in LA live in a desert. It gets hot. So what do I do on a hot day?

1) Get away from the laptop...it is a portable heater (unless you are addicted to the internet).

2) Eat cool foods and stay hydrated. I know we all want to eat melty cheesy Mexican food but its just too hot for that. A bottle of ice cold water is your best friend. Fruits and salads and lots of yummy food that is good for you is also cool to eat. I've also been craving frozen yogurt. I can't resist and would get it every day if I could

3) Sit outside by any body of water (pool, ocean, lake, bucket of water, hose). You may as well get a tan...that's free.

4) Sleep all day. Then go out at night when things have cooled off. I usually opt for this mainly due to the lack of air conditioning in my car, and I like sleeping

5) Get into your underwear, grab a popsicle and lay in your empty bathtub. Trust me it is probably the coolest place in your house to be.

Those are my 5 tips for you. Its going to be a hot one this week. Just try to stay cool and not send the city into a black out.

I started college and have been in the adjustment period, trying to get used to my new surrounding and trying to meet new people and make some friends. I have barely had any time to check my email let alone update! Sorry to let you all down. This week, after being here two and a half weeks I finally decided I should put some shit up on my walls. Let me tell you now, I have very very LITTLE space to work with. I am practically sleeping in my roommates bed, that is how small our room is.

My bed is the orange bed spread closest to the camera. I'm also thinking of moving to a nicer dorm at some point, and I am barely even in my room at this point either.

We have a view of lower Manhattan.
We also have a view of the East River and Brooklyn.

Best chair in the world.

Dorm Room Concepts

We are going to college! my dear friends please don't fall for the stereotypical dorm room look. Don't buy into it!!!! So I have decided to try to bring you all dorm concepts or how to bring your own touch into something that has always been pretty cookie cutter.

1. Pick a color theme. Don't go overboard like buying everything in all the same shade of red or all bright colors, but try to keep your linens in the same color tones so they work together.2.Personalize your side of the room. make it yours, but keep in mind your roommates taste.
3. keep your walls simple and get bright, colorful and most importantly COMFY quilts or duvets.
This duvet cover here is infact the one I plan to use in my dorm. It can be found at Ikea. Don't be afraid to have more than one quilt or duvet cover, and an extra set of sheets is highly recommended by all.
4. Don't just hang things from the walls, especially if you have like cinder block cement walls, see of you can hang things from the ceiling like these colorful paper orbs available through Martha Stewart's line at Michael's.
5. This is probably the first time some of you have control of what gets hung on the fridge since you were little. My parents have been kind enough to let me be in charge of what gets put on the fridge, so just think of it as a collage space that can constantly be changed and added to. My fridge is more cluttered than this but they have the concept down.

I love frames, don't get me wrong but when living in a dorm, a temporary residence, frames aren't that practical, so I went into my stash of pictures to find all my favorite ways of displaying your pictures, polaroids and other snapshots! I feel like every dorm has a polaroid wall, so these are a few examples of how to mix it up.

1. Don't line them up in a perfect rectangle, make a montage blob, not everything is perfect in the world.
note: don't just keep your polaroids in your bedroom, they can go anywhere, use caution putting them on your door, they will be attacked.

2. Or if order is your style, get out a ruler and make sure everything is perfectly symmetrical and straight. This first one is my absolute favorite, and belongs to a friend of mine.

3. Shapes! Mountains, peace signs (ala sam weinberg), words, use your imagination.

4. Instead of taping or tacking your pictures to a wall grab some string and clothes pins.

In other news, nothing much is going on. 3 weeks left in high school and it is all parties, projects, and ceremonies.

With my last few weeks of high school remaining, the end of the year activities hit exactly when my senioritis comes into full swing. Everyone knows Jenny Lewis is the cutest girl in the world. Her music, her hair, her clothes, everything about her is just so awesome! I finally got to see Rilo Kiley this weekend at Coachella, and although there was some disappointment when they didn't play anything off of The Execution of All Things (the totally teased the crowd with the beginning of execution!but i deep down knew they wouldn't play it), I was still enthralled with her presence. My friends and I all kept turning to each other with giant smiles on our faces, we danced and sang along. I even started to tear up when Jenny sang "Does He Love You?" and I know I wasn't the only one hit hard by it. I'm curious if we were in LA if she would have played "I Love LA". Jenny Lewis please tour and play things off of execution. your fans will love you. We love the other albums too, its just cruel not to...you know?

My blog has already turned TWO years old and I have somehow failed to take notice of this until days after its birthday into the internet world! I actually began this blog after first meeting my dear friend Kime Buzzelli, who had just began her own blog not much longer before. My blog as evolved and devolved and continues to change with me and whatever suits me at a certain point. I think we can all agree though, the best thing for my blog was when I got a Livejournal. Something I fear for the day I out grow that.

On with today's post. I dream, absolutely fantasize about one day having a library. I want tons of books, and If you ever want/need/have to buy me a present I would love to receive books. Right now in my room I have a meager collection of books in comparison to what I imagine, but I have come t0 face the reality to make due with the space I have. I love my little library, don't get me wrong, but it is only just beginning.
In the recent weeks these are my top three favorite ways of displaying books:

1. The color coded bookshelves. Forget alphabetizing, going by size, or subject matter. I get so excited thinking about doing this, then I get nervous, if my books in a series have different color spines they become separated.

2. Making use of the space you have. Aside from this room being beautiful, these books are arranged to fit their space. The most realistic approach, and closest to home.
3. I'm sure people have seen this one around on other blogs. Not only is it the coolest staircase ever, it also utilizes a small space, has beautiful reading light and a place to sit while looking for that specific book.
This is all I have for today. And don't forget I love books! Art books especially, I even have a amazon wish list going. It is out of control.

Those who know me personally are aware of my dislike for Starbucks. Aside from not drinking coffee, I try to stay away from caffeine, I also don't agree with what a cult Starbucks drinkers belong to. My mother goes out of her way, sometime waiting twenty minutes for an overpriced drink that in reality she DOES NOT NEED. and okay i understand going once a week, or maybe a few times a week if you really need coffee, but two or more times a day is what really disgusts me. I do not agree with this at all. and if you do feel the need to fuel yourself many times a day, why not support a local coffee shop, whose products are just as good if not better, support them instead of letting some big corporation put them out of business. Seriously, I've seen Starbucks do this many a times.

Seriously, I would like to know, because come on we all loved them, and wished the guys we knew were just put together as them.
Actually, if you Google photos of Jackson Pollis, my blog comes up so many times. This is extremely embarrassing and makes me seem to be the creepy one. I would probably turn the brightest shade of red if I ever saw him again.

Monday's made easy

I woke up this morning tired and sore. I came across this video and realized it made my Monday morning so much better. so here is my list for curing "Mundane" morning blues:

1. This video, seriously.

2. Give yourself extra time that morning. I know it sounds painful to set our alarm 10 even 15 minutes earlier, but then it just allows for some snooze time. Your sleepy brain thinks its getting some extra time.

3. A protein filled breakfast! I can't even get out of bed without food in me. I really think its the only thing that give me energy for the day. Also take your vitamins!

4. Be comfortable. There really is no reason to be put together on a Monday morning. This isn't the weekend. Make sure you shower, wash your face, or even mediate so you still feel good about yourself.

5. Know that the day will most likely go by quickly and you can climb into bed as soon as you get home (if you must, and in my case yes).

I made this back in January, saved it, never posted it?

I went to Utah for a few days and had a lot of time to scavenge flickr for some more saucy dwellings.

I love hardwood floors. I also enjoy the simplicity of the bedside table and the bed frame. I also like white bedding and sheepkin rugs.Although the shelves above the couch makes me nervous, I really like the color palate of the carpet and furniture
cool couch, cool bike, cool walls, cool picture. enough said for this.
Bright open windows. I love buttery yellows and white paired together. the chandelier and the chaise lounge are classy and chic.
I really need to find a proper way to display my cameras. This is something I am going to try to work on.
I would live here easily.

While in Utah I also hit up the thrift stores, purchasing some 1950s National Geographic magazines and a set of children's encyclopedias from the early 60s. I was also tempted to buy my first set of dishes. They I loved them and will save them, look for more until I have a place of my own.

My friend Athena might be the only one who shares my love of French pop music. I have heard her talk about some girl named Yelle before, but today when we were working on layouts and had in a mix cd a few of Yelle's songs came on and I found myself bouncing in my chair, bobbing my head wishing I was jumping on a trampoline to this music, no lies. It was so fun and brightened my day. So we googled her name only to find out she is a super cute girl!

Inspired by the purging Kime did in her apartment I decided it would be an excellent idea if I did the same. Boy does it feel good. First I attacked my closet which was jam packed full to the brim, literally ripping at the seams to the point that no more hangers could fit along the length of it. I took EVERYTHING out and put them on racks and edited it. I would like to say I got rid of a third of my closet because now there is tons of room, TONS. I also got rid of tons of shoes and bags and accesories as well as cleaned out drawers full of random objects. Then I got rid of a large majority of my children's books and "teen fiction" novels (I'm keeping my gossip girl series, how could I not). I had a whole 2 and a half shelves of room which I moved some camera stuff and records up onto that were before just sitting around on the floor. I had done a psuedo organizational/get rid of stuff mission in my room a few months ago but I'm a packrat and my swapmeet finds and photo equipment and photos in general pile up fast. I'm going to have to do this again in a few months because my parents want to move and I will also be moving away temporarily for school.

I'm highly anticipating spring. Unlike last year where I couldn't get enough of winter, I ready to defrost (not that its even that cold in LA). Anyway I really like what Luella Bartley showed for her Spring 08 line, even though the designers are well into next Fall I still think spring deserves a bit of focus.
I can't help but think of Thora Birch in Ghost World when I look at this line. Especially the last two. I love everything about the entire look. Also the entire line is Batman themed and shirts and sweaters have little Batman logos on it, gah so cute.

I just did the scariest thing.
I made a new email address.
For this blog, I was forced by blogger to create a gmail account to use for this blog. At the time I had a gmail account for the nature shows. what I did not realize is this is a permanent thing! I am a bit anal when it comes to consolidating things as in I hate having to remember a lot of passwords and email address. So because I created a gmail account that meant witching back and forth with two accounts on one computer and basically it is too much of a hassle. so what I did was create a blogger account using my new email address. then sign onto my nature show account and invite my new account to be a author on this blog. then I had to accept and go back to the nature show account and make my new account an administrator. I then deleted my old account after transferring all my profile info, and here I am much more organized but still a bit anxious from all the email addresses floating around in my head. if you are my friend and don't know my email address, leave a comment and I will email you!

So today it's been one year since I woke up and went to school and sat in my desk and your chair, next to mine was empty, and then there was all that followed.

I basically just wrote this whole thing about laurel and chose to delete it.
it didnt sound like her, nor like me, its just what i felt like i should say, not that i dont feel like that its just not right

the photo above is the Laurel I have come to remember visually, only because i look at this photo countless times a day on my wall, there for everyone to see

this is the laurel i knew, shes different from the one in the picture above (though i do remember her in every way and phase). This is the photo that ive kept to myself, in the drawer next to my bed with other personal items. this is the Laurel who was my best friend. the girl who didnt want to stick around for high school graduation, who hated malibu and everything it stood for and would listen to punk and bright eyes with me. She was the one who got me addicted to the internet, who shook me up and made me think outside of this little bubble that we live in. Even till the last day, thats what our last conversation was about. She was the queen, and a legend for the record.

Continuing in the mini series I seem to have started of photographers who influence and inspire me, I decided to feature Nan Goldin.

"Upon moving to New York City, Goldin began documentary photography of the post-punk new-wave music scene, and the city's vibrant gay subculture in the late 1970's and early 1980's. gradually being drawn in to the Bowery's hard drug subculture. These photographs, taken from 1979 to 1986, form her famous work The Ballad of Sexual Dependency.The snapshot aesthetic images depict drug use, violent, aggressive couples and autobiographical moments. Most of her Ballad subjects were dead by the 1990s due to either drug overdoses or AIDS, including close friends and often photographed subjects, Cookie Mueller and Greer Lankton. In addition to the Ballad she combined her pictures in two other series I'll Be Your Mirror and All by Myself."
"Nan Goldin's photographs, which pre-date the 'heroin chic' advertising craze of the 1990s, are forthright studies of herself and friends, engrossed in New York's East Village subculture in the early 80s."

I had told my friend Robert (From CCA) about the movie Daisies and how there is a scene where the girls have butterflies on the walls.

Well when Robert left for Malaysia to live for 6 months he told me he would catch me an exotic butterfly. Being a smart boy who didnt know anything about catching and preserving a butterfly, he scourged the city looking for a butterfly to send to me. He eventually found one in a little case in the back of an antique store. The other day I got a giant envelope from far far away and under twenty layers of malaysian newspaper was my butterfly.

If anyone is excited about seeing the Darjeeling Limited, you should ass go onto itunes and download "Hotel Chevalier"
It is a short that is the prequel to Darjeeling. It stars Natalie Portman and Jason Shwartzman, and is pretty amazing. Of corse it is no Royal Tenenbaums, but Mr. Anderson does wonders with film.
